چکیده
This chapter gives an overview of the main physiological applications of collapsible tube flows and reviews the major theoretical and computational developments of the past twenty-five years, ranging from lumped-parameter models to three-dimensional Navier–Stokes simulations. We also discuss some of the significant questions that, despite substantial progress, still remain open. 16 M. HEIL AND O.E. JENSEN

Theoretical Formulations for Finite Element Models of Functionally Graded Beams with Piezoelectric Layers
In this paper an overview of functionally graded materials and constitutive relations of electro elasticity for three-dimensional deformable solids is presented, and governing equations of the Bernoulli–Euler and Timoshenko beam theories which account for through-thickness power-law variation of a two-constituent material and piezoelectric layers are developed using the principle of virtua...
متن کاملNon-invasive measurement of the pressure distribution in a deformable micro-channel
Direct and non-invasive measurement of the pressure distribution in test sections of a micro-channel is a challenging, if not an impossible, task. Here, we present an analytical method for extracting the pressure distribution in a deformable microchannel under flow. Our method is based on a measurement of the channel deflection profile as a function of applied hydrostatic pressure; this initial...
متن کاملNumerical Analysis of Fully Developed Flow and Heat Transfer in Channels with Periodically Grooved Parts (TECHNICAL NOTE)
To obtain a higher heat transfer in the low Reynolds number flows, wavy channels are often employed in myriad engineering applications. In this study, the geometry of grooves shapes is parameterized by means of four angles. By changing these parameters new geometries are generated and numerical simulations are carried out for internal fully developed flow and heat transfer. Results are compared...
متن کاملA Hybrid 3D Colon Segmentation Method Using Modified Geometric Deformable Models
Introduction: Nowadays virtual colonoscopy has become a reliable and efficient method of detecting primary stages of colon cancer such as polyp detection. One of the most important and crucial stages of virtual colonoscopy is colon segmentation because an incorrect segmentation may lead to a misdiagnosis. Materials and Methods: In this work, a hybrid method based on Geometric Deformable Models...
متن کاملI-48: Ultrasound Deformable Model for Virtual Surgery Simulation of Oocyte Retrieval in Infertility Programs
Background The use of a medical simulator should enhance the goals of minimally invasive surgery: patient safety, cosmesis, shortening the length of hospital admissions, and reducing cost. Using an innovative approach to the handling of ultrasound images in virtual reality simulation, this article describes a process that employs a hybrid model of deformable models that can be applied in the te...
